Snarky Cancer

What can I say about my Mom? She is the hardest working, kindest person to walk the planet.  She has always done anything and everything for me.  I have never known someone as amazing as her.  This is the reason I couldn’t wait to be a Mom myself.  I knew I wanted to be just like her.  When I gave birth to my daughter on December 5th, 2018, we were all on cloud nine!  A few days later my Mom started having a pain in her back and just assumed it was a pulled muscle.  After a few weeks it never went away.
She worked for a doctor and she told him something wasn’t right, so he sent her to get an X-Ray to see if she had a broken rib or something.  The X-Ray showed that everything looked normal and she was left with no answers.  A few more weeks went by and the pain was worse than ever, and she ended up taking herself to the emergency room because the pain was unbearable.  They ran blood test and did two CT scans with and without contrast and again, nothing.  At this point she was losing her mind because she knew something was wrong, but they couldn’t figure it out.  In February they sent her for an MRI, and it showed lesions on her bones.  They thought it was Multiple Myeloma which is a very treatable type of bone cancer and we thought, we can handle this.
She met with an Oncologist on February 20th and they sent her for a full body X-Ray and more blood tests so they could figure out a game plan.  On February 23rd I went to her house to visit and she was miserable.  She could barely move and was in more pain than I have ever seen anyone in before.  I finally called 911 and got an ambulance to get her to the hospital.  When she got to the Emergency Room her oxygen levels were dangerously low, and she had a high fever.  She was septic and they were trying their best to get her pain under control.  Tests showed that she had pneumonia because she was in so much pain, she was unable to take a deep enough breath to expand her lungs all the way and pneumonia started to develop.
They admitted her to the Oncology ward and that’s when test after test began.  They did a liver biopsy and it showed that the type of cancer she had was breast cancer and this totally floored us.  She just had a mammogram in July of 2018 and there were no indications that there was anything wrong.
February 28th, they told us that the cancer had metastasized to her liver, bones and brain.  March 1st was her first chemo treatment and a few days later was her first radiation treatment.  After 11 days in the hospital she was released to go home and we were so excited to break her out of that hospital because children under 12 weren’t allowed because of flu season and Mama was ready to get her hands on her granddaughter, Lydia.
Since then my Mom has had to quit her job because the doctor’s appointments and treatments have consumed her life.  She is currently waiting to hear back from disability and needs as much financial help as she can get right now.
My Mom lives alone so we all take turns checking on her and making sure she is eating, getting enough sleep and not over doing anything.  My grandmother and cousin take her to all her appointments and treatments and have really been a tremendous help.
We are so thankful for all the prayers, thoughts and good vibes everyone has already showered us with.  She has had so many people reach out to her to let them know they are thinking of her and to let her know if they can help in anyway and I think this T-shirt fundraiser will really be a huge hit.
